2017 Ford Fusion - Fuccillo Ford - Adams, NY

Gas-Saving Tips for Your 2017 Ford Fusion

You have been driving for years now and believe you know everything you need to know about saving gas. Maybe you are right about that. Even the pros check out whether there are new tips or to just update their own knowledge about gas-saving. Especially when you have a new vehicle like the 2017 Ford Fusion.

One thing we know for sure is that when gasoline prices are high, people tend to pay more attention to gas-saving tips. We live with the false assurance that when prices are lower, it is no longer necessary to keep conserving gas. However, most grade school kids can tell you that gasoline is a petroleum product and as such it is a non-renewable natural product. It is fossil fuel and there are no more dinosaurs.

True, changes in technology can make more petroleum available but it is always wise to conserve natural resources. That is why the people at the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ACE) publishes a review of the basics about saving gas with your vehicle.

Common sense tells us to Remove Excess Weight. No, that does not mean leave the mother-in-law back at home. It means unload the unnecessary clutter from your trunk (exceptions to this might be in winter where snowy roads call for extra weight in the back). If you are only storing essentials in the trunk of your car you are on the right track. Less weight usually yields better mileage which means you are already gas-saving.

Another common sense tip is to Consolidate trips and errands. Plan your trips to the store or running errands to use your time well and to avoid one item trips. If you live out of town, you probably already do that, but many people will jump into their 2017 Ford Fusion just to grab a cup of coffee in the morning, and then go out for lunch later. Think about it. Some of those trips might be unnecessary. Choose to travel during the time of day when there is less traffic, if you can. That way you avoid lots of stop and go driving conditions.

Do you Monitor your Tires? If they are poorly aligned or under-inflated you are wasting gasoline. Those conditions make the engine work harder, even with your new 2017 Ford Fusion. If your tires are out-of-line, don't try to fix that yourself. Uneven tread wear means a trip to the pros or your dealership at Fucillo Ford. Be sure to check the air pressure for your tires after they have cooled down for a more accurate reading. This is true even if your car has a built-in pressure monitor.

It seems we are always in a hurry. But Observe Speed Limits. There is no doubt that speeding decreases the miles per gallon for your vehicle.

Drive gently.  You know that you can guzzle gas with sudden acceleration. Try to adjust your speed gradually to accommodate traffic patterns ahead.

When you wait for family or friends, turn off the engine. Avoid excessive idling. If the drive-thru lane at the fast food place is completely around the store. Park your vehicle and walk in for faster service and more gas-saving.

Use windows and air conditioning wisely.  If you keep your windows closed at highway speeds your mileage should be better because you are reducing the air drag.  However, in stop and go traffic, try turning off the air conditioning to conserve fuel.

Keep your engine "tuned up."  You already know that an engine gets maximum gas mileage when it is well maintained. The owner's manual for your 2017 Ford Fusion lists all of the steps you need to take and when. Replace fluids and filters as suggested. If you have any engine problems it is best to go to the dealership and have the car checked by properly trained technicians. Fucillo Ford's service department is ready to serve you when you need it, if you need it. Go to Fucillo Ford on US. 11 in Adams, NY.

2017 Ford Explorer - Fuccillo Ford - Adams, NY

2017 Ford Explorer Tire Care

To get the most out of your 2017 Ford Explorer, you need to learn how to take care of it.  It is not as hard as it seems, but it is incredibly important. Actually, it is a good idea to even take the Owner's Manual out of the glove compartment and look through it for tips and guidance. Ford does a good job of letting you know what you need to do in terms of professional care and how often to do things. Add your own notes to keep a record of your pre-owned Explorer's maintenance.  Of course, there are fancy smartphone apps for that too. But do not rely on your memory to record what you have done and when you have done it.

The first thing you need to understand is your tire care. What kind are they? How many miles have they traveled? What does the tread depth and tread wear tell you about your Explorer?  You could have all-season tires or summer tires or snow tires on this vehicle, so you need to check it out. Learn how to read the signs of tread wear on the tires. Most tires have tread wear lines that are perpendicular to the tread and are easy to see. When you do see them, that is a sure sign that your tires need to be replaced. An old-fashioned test is to put a penny in the tread groove, upside down and notice how much of Lincoln's head is showing.  If all of Abraham Lincoln's head is visible, your tires are worn down!  So get new ones pronto.

What is so important about tire tread for your Explorer? Everything regarding safety on the road. Traction. If your tires are worn down, it is too easy for you to go hydroplaning in the rain and lose control.  Worn out tires also are more likely to have a blow out while you are driving at high speeds in highway traffic. That is another safety hazard.

Pay attention to whether your tires are inflated to the proper pressure level.  Each type of tire has been designed to function at its best with a very specific level of air pressure inside it.  You can damage the sidewalls if your tires are under-inflated. That becomes another safety hazard because they can rupture and blow out. On the side of your Explorer's tires is the information telling you what the maximum pressure is for your tires. Have the tires filled to the maximum pressure rating. You can inflate your own tires or get help from the service department at your Ford dealership.  Remove the valve cap from the tire and use a tire gauge on the valve stem. Take a reading of how much air pressure is in the tire. Use an air compressor to inflate your tires to the proper level if needed.

Why don't you want under-inflated or over-inflated tires? It is a safety hazard and improper tire pressure will reduce the efficiency of your Explorer. The number of miles per gallon will drop significantly with under-inflated tires because it is harder for the engine to work with soft tires. On the other hand, over inflated tires are more likely to blow out or simply reduce the lifespan of the tires. Besides, it is simply poor tire care.

After all the time and energy you put into selecting your 2017 Ford Explorer, you don't want to waste it away with poor maintenance habits. Take a little time to discuss tire care with the service department at Fucillo Ford in Adams, New York. It is on Route 11 and easy to find. They will be pleased to help you care for your vehicle.

2017 Ford Expedition - Fuccillo Ford - Adams, NY

2017 Ford Expedition

As the proud owner of a pre-owned 2017 Ford Expedition you must realize it will require your care and maintenance to keep it in top condition. You are already a person of distinction, as shown by your selection of this top of the line SUV. You had to choose between different models and engine sizes which further shows your attention to detail. All of them have transmission fluid.

Nonetheless, whether you chose a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Engine or a  2.3L I-4 EcoBoost Engine, in both cases you have a 6 speed automatic transmission with different options. Both are designed for safety and efficiency. Plus, both have similar needs for care and maintenance. Take a few minutes today to look over your Owner's Manual and understand what particular maintenance your 2017 Ford Expedition will need in the short and long term.

Essential Fluids

Notice the manufacturer's recommendations for fluids. You know all parts are connected. The fluid levels are essential for their operations. Never let your fluids get low.

In particular, the one needing the least amount of your attention most of the time may be the most critical.  The transmission is what keeps the engine running.  Transmission fluid deteriorates over a period of time. The purpose of transmission fluid its to lubricate moving parts, facilitate shifting gears and cool the transmission.

Some types of driving raises the transmission temperature, such as towing a trailer, carrying heavy loads, or frequent stop-and-go driving, like in the city.  These are considered high stress conditions.  If most of your driving is in these categories, you will need to check the transmission fluid level more often.  Usually this fluid is pink or reddish in color, but, as it wears out, it will turn darker. It might also have a burned odor. The darker color or presence of an unusual odor are both good reasons to take your 2017 Ford Expedition to the shop to have it evaluated. It might mean the transmission fluid needs to be changed or that there is a problem with the transmission itself.  Transmission fluid with dirt or debris definitely needs to be changed.

Often the mechanic will suggest changing transmission fluid or flushing it when you go in for an oil change  or some other routine service.  The simplest thing they may do is show you that the fluid is no longer pink or red, or is darker than it was the last time they saw you.  But, check your Owner's Manual for the maintenance schedule and understand the manufacturer's recommendation. Then decide.  You are also the only one who really knows how much recent heavy-duty driving your 2017 Ford Expedition has been through.

Meanwhile, check your oil level, and coolant level while you are thinking about it. Remember to check your brake fluid as well. Each of these is responsible for lubricating or cooling a specific part of your vehicle. So, think about keeping all parts of your body hydrated and do the same for your 2017 Ford Expedition. When you are pushing harder than usual, you need more internal fluids. Your vehicle does too.

If any of these levels are low, correct the situation by adding the appropriate fluid and then monitor it to be sure there are no leaks in its system. That is your particular maintenance care for your vehicle to keep it in top condition.  Think about what each fluid does and it will help you understand what your engine needs.

If you keep your 2017 Ford Expedition properly maintained it can reduce problems and  prevent aggravation in the future. The service department at Fucillo Ford on Route 11 in Adams, New York will be glad to help you.

2017 Ford Escape - Fuccillo Ford - Adams, NY

How many people buy a 2017 Ford Escape without even looking under the hood?

I admit I do not have accurate statistics about 2017 Ford Escape on that issue. Yet, I do get odd looks from from Ford dealers whenever I DO look under the hood.  I do not kick tires, but I look at pre-owned vehicles very carefully. I even get down on the ground an look at the undercarriage and frame.

This is always after I have done my research online on this particular model and year to learn what the individual kinks and problems there may be hidden in its history. CarFax and Consumer Reports and even CarTalk on the radio provides me with enough background to prepare me for my on-site examination and discussion with the dealership staff.

I learn a lot about the dealership by the way they treat me as a customer. If they are annoyed or irritated that I am taking too much of their time, it could cost the sale. Not every woman who looks for a car will go to that much trouble but if they send me a rookie who shows disrespect toward older people or women I am not interested in rewarding bad manners.

Aside from how dealers approach clients,  There is a lot to be  learned by examining the pre-owned car closely. Does fresh paint cover up rusted undercarriage parts? Is the frame square or has it been in a wreck and now is now unforgivably bent, explaining the bargain price?  When the dealer prepped the car for sale, were all of the hoses in good shape? Fluids topped off. Interior of the car super clean? How many owners were there? Do the dealers facts agree with those shown on CarFax? Do not be afraid to touch the car, inside or out. Are there colonies of odd insects hiding under the carpet?

I never give my credit information until I am satisfied with the 2017 Ford Escape inspection and test drive. I have learned to keep my mouth shut and to answer only what is absolutely necessary so that it cannot be twisted and used against me in a new sale pitch.  You see, I do not want the dealer to sell me the car. I want the car to sell itself. In my mind, the dealer comes into play when I am near a decision and ready to discuss options or the 2017 Ford Escape and for pricing. What is the best offer the dealership can give me?

By this time we both know I am a serious contender and my financial information will be shared.  Yet, I can still leave without a contract if I want to think it over or if I have other cars to compare.  Dealers need to keep this in mind and not throw temper tantrums if I do not buy something from them right away. For the company, it has to be a long-term relationship.  It is about building relationships with trust. I might even want to talk with the service people.

You can count on the people at Fucillo Ford in Adams, New York to treat you well. They are located on Route 11 and will be pleased to help you find the car that suits you best.
